Dan and Brenda Cote installed their first Aqua-Vend Reverse Osmosis treated water vending machine at a local grocery store and set up shop in their Auburn, Maine home in 1994.After 12 years Aqua-Vend ’s RO treated “Pure Water ” can be bought at 40 vending machines throughout Maine, with locations that include grocery stores and kiosks. Cote ’s simple explanation of the Aqua-Vend RO system is that “whether purifying city-water or well-water,RO uses more than one type of filter in its purification process,as there is no one filter which will remove all impurities from your water. It pre-filters to remove sediment, filters with charcoal, and filters with the RO membrane which can actually remove bacteria and most viruses. It then polishes the water before it disinfects with Ultra Violet light and fills a container.RO is an efficient way to reduce impurities, using no energy other than normal water pressure.”

Consumers looking for more information on water testing and contaminant removal should contact A &L Laboratories,a nationally certified EPA lab in Auburn, noted Cote.“Consumers need to get the facts from unbiased sources — that doesn ’t include companies that test their own systems in their own office and decide what is acceptable, and what isn ’t, in the water they.

Busting at the Seams
Though Cote can test for these issues,he still insists on independent lab tests.“No matter which lab consumers go to for water quality testing, they can have the results explained here. We want our customers to feel comfortable in asking questions in
order to make informed decisions,” said Cote. Aqua-Vend was spurred to add a line of home water treatment equipment because of public interest brought on by other systems that didn ’t work and media attention on arsenic, lead, and other major contaminants in drinking water. This growth in business brought about a move from Auburn to Lewiston, and later a renovation to their business on Sabattus including a new office, showroom, lab for water testing and a warehouse. The lab offers limited water tests for common problems such as iron, manganese ,pH, and hardness.

“After only one year, our warehouse was busting at the seams. We really could use twice the amount of space, but we are utilizing the space as best we can in order to keep overhead costs low. We have plans to expand the warehouse next year,as we continue to keep parts for every product we sell and we add new products to meet consumer needs,” said Cote.

Products Meet Your Needs
The products sold at Aqua-Vend of New England include the “world ’s best ” Hague systems, totally made in the USA,such as water conditioners, iron removal systems, arsenic treatment systems, UV light systems, tannin removal systems and more.“Cottage owners find that it is more economical to treat lake water with a UV light than it is to drill a new well.”

A water purifying system is for drinking water and a water conditioning system is for working water. Working water is used throughout the home — for laundry and bathing — and should be circulated through a WaterMax unit.Customize the media to solve virtually any water problem, including pH,acidity, iron, tastes, and odors. Hague ’s “WaterMax ” Softener was added to Aqua-Vend ’s line of water purification systems as a solution to hard water problems, especially the removal of deadly arsenic frequently found in Maine ’s well water.Designed by an engineering team, WaterMax is a multi-stage media system that processes water through several assorted layers of media. It has been tested and validated by the NSF certified Water Quality Association and other water quality associations.

Values and Ethics
As the line of products grows, the need arose for additional salespeople.Cote explained he looks for a certain quality in his salespeople.“Aqua-Vend salespeople must follow the values and ethics that have made this company so successful.I believe that it is important to sell the customer what he needs, not any more than that, and without using scare tactics. In other words,we customize each order to the customers ’ needs.” Cote added that he will continue to be personally involved in every system sold through Aqua-Vend of New England.

Service at the Ready
“Service is critical to our good customer relations. We can rebuild every product we sell.In most cases we can fix your problem in a day or two,” said Cote.“We service and install what we sell.”

Looking out for the best interests of their customers, the Cotes are available after the sale for service and, should the customer ’s needs change, for updates to their present water treatment systems.“Everyone who works for Aqua-Vend is totally factory-trained and certified by Hague Water systems in Ohio.”

Equipment Warranty
The Hague equipment sold at Aqua-Vend of New England has a 25 year warranty on the resin filter and a 10 year warranty on the valves. The first three years include a 100% warranty on parts.

Your Home Environment
The water treatment systems sold by Aqua-Vend of New England blend into most homes just like any other appliance.“Our products can fit in closets if space is tight. Many whole house systems are installed in the basement.” Cote added,“The systems are extremely quiet because they are insulated.” The whole house water treatment systems mentioned by Cote refer to the systems that treat the city water that comes into your home. Often city water from the tap has a repugnant chlorine taste and odor.Well water can have various problems, too.“Hague water systems can usually fix any water issue found in city and well water. That ’s why our motto is ‘Let us fix your water ’.”
